Dr. Robin Ryan

2021-2022 Superintendent Objectives

Dr. Robin Ryan joined GCISD as Superintendent on June 15, 2010. He is serving his 37th year in education, including as principal of Colleyville Heritage High School from 2004-2006. In May 2018, Dr. Ryan was named the 2018 Region XI Superintendent of the Year.

He previously served in Dallas ISD as Chief Academic Officer and Area Superintendent; in Carroll ISD as a high school principal, junior high principal, middle school principal and assistant principal; in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD as a life science teacher and Student Services Coordinator; in San Angelo ISD as the administrator of one of the first discipline alternative schools in Texas; and as a high school biology teacher in Graham ISD.

Dr. Ryan, 59, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, Master of Education degree from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, and Doctorate degree from the University of North Texas. He also served 20 years in the Army National Guard and Reserves, retiring as a major in 2004.

Dr. Ryan and his family have lived in Grapevine since 1995. He is married to Dr. Cindy Ryan. They have three children: daughter, Daryl, is a graduate of Grapevine High School and Texas A&M and is now a speech-language pathologist for Dickinson ISD; son, Reed, is a graduate of Grapevine High School and Texas A&M and is a teacher/coach for Prosper ISD; and their youngest son, Graham, is a graduate of Grapevine High School and Texas A&M and is now serving in the U.S. Army.

LEAD 2021 / LEAD 2.0

With Dr. Ryan's arrival in 2010, GCISD set forth to develop a strategic plan which would guide the work of the District moving forward. More than 300 stakeholders, including students, parents, community members, teachers and administrators, were involved in the design of this plan known as LEAD 2021. LEAD stands for Leading Excellence – Action Driven. It was a bold plan that impacted every aspect of GCISD – from instruction and technology to facilities and operations – through four core objectives and seven specific strategies. As progress toward the goals of LEAD 2021 continued, GCISD leaders recognized the need to begin articulating the next phase of the strategic plan that would build upon LEAD 2021 and bring focus to our greatest opportunities for improvement. In April 2018, work began the next iteration of the strategic plan, called LEAD 2.0. Throughout the development process, more than 1,000 parents, students, staff and community members shared feedback, experiences and aspirations that helped frame our shared four goals for the future:

Goal 1: Actively identify and remove barriers that limit access to and opportunity for learning
Goal 2: Design learning environments that support social and emotional well-being
Goal 3: Create a culture that fosters learning environments that reflect student voice and promote student engagement
Goal 4: Effectively communicate with targeted audiences
