 TEA Guidelines for State-Funded Pre-Kindergarten
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Pre-Kindergarten Program, a child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the upcoming school year. The child is eligible for enrollment in the Pre-K program if he/she meets any of the following criteria:

  • unable to speak and comprehend the English Language; or
  • educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program); or
  • homeless; or
  • the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who's ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
  • the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer (3106.002), firefighter (3106.003), or emergency medical first responder (3106.004); or
  • have ever been in the conservatorship of Child Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing.

LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT CENTER
Any student who has a language other than English listed on his/her Home Language Survey should visit the Language Assessment Center for qualification and registration assistance.

GCISD ofrece un programa estatal de Pre-Kindergarten de todo el día.

ELEGIBILIDAD
Un niño, para tener derecho a asistir al programa de Pre-Kindergarten, debe tener 4 años cumplidos antes del 1º de septiembre del ciclo escolar venidero. El niño tiene derecho a inscribirse en el programa de Pre-Kindergarten si cumple con cualquiera de los siguientes criterios:

  • No poder hablar y comprender el idioma de inglés; o
  • Estar en desventaja educativa (tiene derecho a participar en el Programa Nacional de Almuerzos Escolares); o
  • Ser carente de hogar; o
  • Ser hijo de un integrante de las fuerzas armadas de EE. UU. en servicio activo, incluyendo las fuerzas militares estatales o un componente de reserva de las fuerzas armadas, cuyas órdenes para el servicio activo vienen de la autoridad apropiada; o
  • Ser hijo de una persona que tiene derecho al premio Estrella de Texas como un oficial de la paz (3106.002), un bombero (3106.003), o personal de primeros auxilios de emergencia médica; o
  • Si alguna vez ha estado bajo la tutela de los Servicios de Protección Infantil (familia de acogida) después de una audiencia adversaria.

CENTRO DE EVALUACIÓN DEL LENGUAJE (LAC)
Cualquier estudiante quien ha indicado un idioma distinto al inglés en la encuesta sobre cual lenguaje se habla en casa, debe dirigirse al LAC para ayuda en el proceso de cualificación e inscripción.
