
GCISD runners had an incredible day across the board as the Grapevine High School boys and girls cross country teams each finished second at the 5A UIL State Cross Country Championships. In addition, Colleyville Heritage junior Felisa Saheib finished 10th in the girls 5K at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
The GHS girls were led by junior Caroline Burrow who finished just behind Saheib in 11th place with a time of 18:07.06. Saheib completed the 5K in 18:05.23. Three other Mustangs finished in the top 25, including junior Rachel Sutliff (14th, 18:15.36), freshman Theresa McCullough (20th, 18:29.11) and senior Ashley Dove (23rd, 18:35.28).
The GHS boys were led by sophomore Walker St. John who finished in 14th with a 5K time of 15:19.61. He was followed by sophomore Trey Leathers (19th, 15:31.04) and sophomore Josue Granados (31st, 15:43.20).
Each GHS team was tops among Metroplex teams in the 5A competition with El Paso Eastwood winning the boys title and Boerne Champion winning the girls title.
