Colleyville Heritage junior Abby Devereaux won the UIL 1-Meter Diving 5A State Championship, highlighting a great weekend for GCISD student-athletes at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
After placing second in the prelims on Friday, Devereaux posted a personal-best score of 447.75 in the finals on Saturday, besting the second-place diver by nearly eight points. The score also qualifies Devereaux for All-American consideration.
In addition to the Devereaux’s diving championship, GCISD had one other student-athlete qualify for Championship Finals. Colleyville Heritage junior Nick Rennhack qualified for finals in both the 100-yard Butterfly and 100-yard Backstroke, finishing in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
In total, GCISD was represented by 14 student-athletes who competed in eight events at the UIL Swimming and Diving State Meet.
