According to the CDC, students who have symptoms of infectious illnesses , such as influenza (flu) or COVID-19, should stay home and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care. The GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center is available for symptomatic students, and there are also many other testing options in Tarrant County (COVIDTesting.TarrantCounty.com).

In the case of an individual who has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and who is not evaluated by a medical professional or tested for COVID-19, such individual is assumed to have COVID-19, and the individual may not return to the campus until the individual has completed the three-step set of criteria listed here.

The GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center is located in Portable Building CRC2 of the GCISD Administration complex (view map). The testing center hours are 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Monday through Friday. Students must come after 8:30 a.m. and must have an appointment. More information can be found on the GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center webpage.

If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please contact your campus. At that point, you will be directed to the campus nurse who will then provide you with instructions.

If a student is identified as a contact of an individual that tests positive for COVID-19 at their campus, that student’s parent/guardian will be notified directly via email by GCISD. For individuals that receive that notification, or those that are determined to be a contact, quarantine is not required.

However, if you do wish to quarantine, a remote conferencing option is available for students to receive attendance credit and continue their learning. More information on remote conferencing is available here.

Remote conferencing is available for students who are unable to attend school in-person because they are in quarantine as the result of being a contact or isolated due to a positive COVID-19  test. . To sign up for remote conferencing, login to Skyward and complete a Remote Conferencing Form (instructions).

For general remote conferencing questions, please contact [email protected]. For questions regarding class assignments during remote conferencing, Pre-K through 4th-grade students can ask their remote conferencing teacher, and 5th-grade through 12th-grade students can directly contact their regular classroom teacher.

In the event that the District is notified of a positive COVID-19 case, contact letters will be sent that day to individuals that may have been exposed. It is important to note that if a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the campus nurse needs to be contacted immediately so that the District may begin its contact tracing. If there is a delay in notifying the campus, there will be a delay in notifying contacts.

The day after a positive case has been identified, and contacts have been notified, the District will send a campus-wide communication with the total number of campus cases for the previous day. This information will also be updated on the District’s COVID-19 Cases webpage.

Yes. As the District continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our communities and our campuses, the following thresholds have been determined for implementing additional COVID protocols at the elementary school level:

• If a classroom has a 10% positivity rate for COVID-19, additional COVID protocols will be temporarily implemented including placing desks in rows facing the same direction where feasible and providing students with a desktop divider for the classroom. Students will take their individual desktop divider with them to art, music and the cafeteria. Students will remain in cohorts to the extent possible in PE and recess to limit contacts. 
• If a classroom has a 20% positivity rate for COVID-19, the temporary COVID-19 protocols mentioned above will remain in place. Additionally, the District will review circumstances surrounding the positive cases to determine if quarantine is warranted. 
• If a classroom has a 30% positivity rate for COVID-19, students must quarantine for a designated period of time and will transition to remote learning. 

For secondary campuses, while we can determine classroom positivity rates, due to students changing classes at the middle and high schools we are unable to quarantine one class. The District will still notify contacts as well as the campus regarding a positive case.

Si su estudiante da positivo en una prueba de COVID-19, por favor comuníquese con su escuela. En ese momento, usted será dirigido a la enfermera escolar que luego le proporcionará instrucciones.

Si se determina que un estudiante ha tenido contacto con otro individuo que da positivo para COVID-19 en su escuela, los padres/tutores de este estudiante serán notificados directamente por correo electrónico por GCISD. Para los individuos que reciben esta notificación, o los que han sido identificados como individuos con contacto, no se requiere ponerse en cuarentena.

Sin embargo, si usted sí desea ponerse en cuarentena, existe una opción de conferencias remotas disponible para que los estudiantes reciban crédito de asistencia y puedan continuar su aprendizaje. Las conferencias remotas están disponibles para estudiantes que no pueden asistir a la escuela en-persona porque están en cuarentena como resultado de haber estado en contacto o de haberse aislado después de dar positivo en una prueba de COVID-19. En caso de que se notifique al Distrito de un caso positivo de COVID-19, las cartas de contacto se enviarán ese día a cualquier individuo que pueda haber estado expuesto. Es importante notar que si un estudiante o miembro del personal da positivo en una prueba de COVID-19, la enfermera escolar debe ser notificada inmediatamente para que el Distrito pueda empezar el proceso de rastreo de contacto. Si hay una demora en notificar a la escuela, habrá una demora en notificar a los contactos.

El día después de que se haya identificado un caso positivo y se notifique a todos los contactos, el Distrito emitirá una comunicación a toda la escuela con el número total de casos en la escuela desde el día anterior. Sí. A medida que el Distrito continúa monitoreando la propagación de COVID-19 en nuestras comunidades y escuelas, se han establecido los siguientes umbrales para implementar protocolos COVID adicionales a nivel de escuela primaria.

• Si un salón de clases tiene una tasa de positividad del 10% para COVID-19, se implementarán protocolos COVID adicionales temporalmente, incluyendo la colocación de los escritorios en filas que miran hacia la misma dirección, proporcionándoles a los estudiantes un separador de escritorio de plástico  en el salón de clases. Los estudiantes llevarán sus separadores de escritorio individuales consigo a las clases de arte y música, y a la cafetería. Los estudiantes permanecerán en grupos de aula en la mayor medida posible en la clase de Educación Física y durante el recreo para limitar el contacto.
• Si un salón de clases tiene una tasa de positividad del 20% para COVID-19, los protocolos mencionados anteriormente permanecerán en vigor. Además, el Distrito revisará las circunstancias de los casos positivos para determinar si la cuarentena es justificada.
• Si un salón de clases tiene una tasa de positividad del 30% para COVID-19, los estudiantes deberán ponerse en cuarentena por un período de tiempo designado, donde participarán en el aprendizaje remoto.

Para las escuelas secundarias y preparatorias, aunque se pueden determinar las tasas de positividad en los salones de clases, no será posible poner a toda una clase en cuarentena debido al hecho de que los estudiantes están cambiando de aula a nivel de escuela secundaria y preparatoria. El Distrito seguirá notificando a los contactos y a la escuela sobre los casos positivos.
