On Monday, June 19, GCISD Trustees approved Dr. Brad Schnautz as the new Deputy Superintendent. Dr. Schnautz currently serves as the superintendent in Lexington ISD.
“In GCISD, everything we do is guided by our strategic plan, LEAD 2021,” said Dr. Robin Ryan GCISD Superintendent. “While we are all responsible for implementing the mission and vision of LEAD, the Deputy Superintendent position leads the oversight of many of the action items related to technology, curriculum and instruction, accountability and assessment, career and technical education and counseling. We are so excited to have Dr. Schnautz join our staff as our Deputy Superintendent to continue leading the implementation of LEAD 2021, which is redefining education for the students and staff of GCISD.”
The search for the next deputy superintendent began in May when Dr. Rick Westfall was named the superintendent in Keller ISD.
Dr. Schnautz has served as Lexington ISD Superintendent of Schools since 2015, where he was responsible for the instructional, financial and operational leadership of approximately 1,000 students and 150 faculty. While serving as superintendent, he led an extensive strategic design process, which consisted of collaborating and partnering with community stakeholders to create the district’s call to action, beliefs, goals, learner profile and specific results for the next five years. Dr. Schnautz improved the digital learning environment across the district by improving the technology infrastructure and adding devices across all campuses, which includes a 1:1 initiative in eighth through twelfth-grade. He also established a professional learning collaborative with two neighboring districts to provide opportunities for teachers and staff to collaborate with their peers in improving instructional practices.
Prior to serving as superintendent, Dr. Schnautz was principal of Magnolia West High School from 2012-2015 and was named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Region 6 High School Principal of the Year in 2013. Under his leadership, the campus increased the number of students participating in the AP program by 105 percent and increased the number of AP tests taken by 137 percent over a two year period. The campus also implemented opportunities for student and teacher recognition through citizenship awards, instructional awards and ongoing celebrations of student success.
From 2010-2012, Dr. Schnautz was principal at Magnolia Junior High School, during which time the campus increased student attendance, implemented a campus-wide character building program as well as a school-based mentoring program for at-risk students. Prior to being named principal, Dr. Schnautz served several roles at Magnolia West High School including assistant principal, math teacher and head baseball coach.
Dr. Schnautz began his career in Bryan ISD as a math teacher and coach at Stephen F. Austin Middle School in 2002. He transitioned to high school in 2004 as an Algebra I teacher, varsity assistant baseball and junior varsity football coach. Dr. Schnautz taught for one year in Conroe ISD at the Woodlands College Park High School before joining the staff in Magnolia ISD in 2006.

Dr. Schnautz has a bachelor’s degree in industrial distribution from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in administration from Sam Houston State University and a doctoral degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University. He will begin his new role with GCISD in July.
