On Monday, June 19, GCISD Trustees approved Kristi Brown as the new Director of Early Childhood.
“I am so excited to come on board in GCISD and join the amazing programs already in place,” Brown said. “Early childhood education has always been a passion of mine as it helps shape the way a child feels about school and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to impact students across the district in my new role.”
The Director of Early Childhood is a new position for the 2017-2018 school year aimed at developing the various programs for the youngest learners including tuition and state-based pre-kindergarten, the Early Childhood Development Center and KidzU program.
Brown began her career in 2000 as a pre-kindergarten teacher in Lubbock and then Brownfield Texas. In 2002 she joined Frenship ISD as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher before moving to the role of interventionist and special education teacher in 2009. She became the assistant principal at the Academic Beginnings Center in Levelland Texas in 2012 where she worked with head start representatives and teachers to ensure the proper implementation of policies and procedures.
She is currently serving as an assistant principal in Frenship ISD at Oak Ridge Elementary where she participated on a district design team to design a district-wide learning framework to help teachers create engaging lessons for the 21st century learner.
“In GCISD we believe that starting out with a strong education from a young age can have profound impact on the overall educational experience,” said GCISD Superintendent Dr. Robin Ryan. “We are so excited for Kristi to join our team so that she may help set the foundation for a strong education with our youngest learners.”
Brown has a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from Abilene Christian University, a master’s degree in education from Wayland Baptist University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lubbock Christian University.
