GHS Gymnast earns State Champion title

The Grapevine High School Girls Gymnastics team competed in the State Tournament, which was held in Odessa, TX. A team of four, three of the gymnasts are seniors and it is their fourth year to make it to state. Demi Pursley, senior, placed in all events and received the championship position on Vault, earning the title of number one in the state of Texas.

The state competition included more than 40 schools from Texas. Pursley (second from right in photo) is the first Grapevine HS or Colleyville Heritage High School student to earn a championship title in more than 20 years.

“Making it to State for four years in a row is really remarkable,” said Pamela Gunn, GCISD gymnastics coach.

Gunn explained that the athletes must accumulate points as a team in order to qualify for state. Grapevine HS only has a team of four, while other schools may have 12 - 15 athletes on a team, so they must earn high scores to be a state contender.
