The following was sent to the GCISD community on May 21, 2020.
As campus and District leaders continue to engage in discussions surrounding what learning may look like in August, the more immediate items to address are summer learning and engagement opportunities in GCISD. District leaders of each program have considered the current guidelines related to COVID-19, the needs of students and the health and safety of students and staff in making decisions about the summer of 2020. The plans for each program are described below:
Secondary Summer School
All summer school courses for this summer will be held remotely and the program will be limited to middle and high school students only. Middle school bridge and credit recovery will also be offered remotely for eligible students. Registration opened on May 11 and fees will apply.
Dream Camp (Elementary Intervention)
The District will offer Dream Camp for elementary intervention with remote synchronous learning. There will be three, 3-week sessions beginning June 1 and ending July 31. Students will be invited to participate based on academic need.
Summer Enrichment
The nature of classes designed for summer enrichment do not allow a reasonable transition to a favorable remote experience. For these reasons, the District will not offer the summer enrichment program.
KidzU Camp
Out of an abundance of caution, the District will not provide KidzU Camp to further ensure the safety of students and staff.
As the District continues to monitor health guidance from local, state and national health officials, information will be updated and available on the District website at www.gcisd.net.
