Sheila Shimmick, current principal at Colleyville Elementary School, has been named principal at Heritage Middle School. Trustees approved the recommendation during the board meeting on July 2.

“Sheila is a tremendous campus leader that has spent more than 20 years teaching and leading elementary aged students,” said GCISD Superintendent Dr. Robin Ryan. “We are so excited for her to have the opportunity to lead Heritage Middle School, which was recently named an AVID National Demonstration Site.”

Shimmick began her career in GCISD at Heritage Elementary School. After spending over ten years in the classroom teaching fourth and second grade, she served as the assistant principal at Heritage Elementary for four years. In 2013, Shimmick moved into her current role as principal of Colleyville Elementary.

“I have absolutely loved working with the Colleyville Elementary School staff, students and families the last seven years,” said Shimmick. “While I am extremely sad to be leaving my CES family and community, I am grateful and honored to be given the opportunity to become a Heritage Middle School Bronco. I look forward to supporting and contributing to the continual growth and success they have had at HMS.”

She earned her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Stephen F. Austin State University and a masters degree in education in leadership and policy studies with principal from University of Texas at Arlington.
