Dear GCISD Students, Staff, and Families:
At 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, Tarrant County Public Health and Human Services issued an order requiring school districts to start the school year in a virtual learning only format. This means that all students and teachers will begin classes in remote learning and buildings will remain closed to students for regular on-campus face-to-face instruction until after September 27. As our staff has been hard at work preparing to support students in a remote environment, the first day of instruction will remain August 17.
Following the county order, district officials are now adjusting the remote learning plan to align with new state requirements. We can assure you that we are committed to providing high quality instruction to our students and ongoing support for our staff. Remote learning in fall 2020 will be a different model from [email protected] in the spring. We will include academic and social/emotional support to continue to meet the needs of our students and staff, while also meeting state requirements for accountability and student academic progress. In addition, staff and students will adhere to our standard district grading and attendance regulations.
There also is some flexibility in the county order to assist districts with serving students in specialized circumstances. In addition to the order from Tarrant County, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) released modifications to the 2020-2021 UIL calendar and updated its COVID-19 risk mitigation guidelines. We are thoroughly reviewing this information and will communicate additional details for each of our campuses as soon as possible.
We will continue to monitor guidance that is issued from local health officials, as well as the Texas Education Agency and the Governor. We understand that the frequent changes are challenging for our students, parents, and staff. We thank you for your continued support and trust during this uncertain time and as we respond to these shifting requirements and plan for the return of our GCISD students and staff. Estimados estudiantes, personal y familias de GCISD:
A las 11:35 de la mañana del martes 21 de julio, el Departamento de Servicios Humanos y de Salud del Condado de Tarrant emitió una orden que requiere que los distritos escolares comiencen el año escolar en un formato de aprendizaje virtual únicamente. Esto significa que todos los estudiantes y maestros comenzarán las clases de aprendizaje de forma remota y los edificios escolares permanecerán cerrados a los estudiantes para la enseñanza regular en persona hasta después del 27 de septiembre. Ya que nuestro personal ha estado trabajando con diligencia preparándose para apoyar a los estudiantes en un ambiente remoto, el primer día de instrucción seguirá siendo el 17 de agosto.

Entendemos que estos cambios múltiples son un desafío para nuestros estudiantes, padres y personal.
