At its September meeting, the GCISD Board of Trustees was proud to virtually invite three businesses that were honored as part of the TASB Business Recognition Program. The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) initiated the annual program in 2014 to recognize the general assistance provided to districts by businesses and other community organizations.
GCISD knows the value of the help it receives from these businesses and the District is deeply appreciative of these partnerships. Nominations for the 2020-2021 TASB Business Recognition Program are made by campus representatives and are accepted beginning in late October. Businesses are then recognizing following the school year.
The three businesses recognized by the program from GCISD were Schroeder Orthodontics, Spring Creek Barbecue and Wise Guys Pizzeria. GCISD’s motto is Building Excellent Schools Together, and the Together portion of that is not possible without great partners like these.
Schroeder Orthodontics provided five $1,000 grants to GCISD teachers at Colleyville Elementary, Grapevine Elementary, Heritage Elementary and Silver Lake Elementary. The grants were used to purchase a wide range of supplies that enrich the education of GCISD students, from bookshelves and furniture to a hydroponic indoor garden. Additionally, Schroeder Orthodontics is a proud community partner of the Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation.
Spring Creek Barbecue has hosted spirit nights for many GCISD elementary schools. At these events, the campus has the opportunity to earn upwards of $1,000. Spring Creek also honors all staff who help work that night with a free meal and a gift card to return. Additionally, in many cases they award classes with the top attendance with Spring Creek t-shirts, gift cards, and other Spring Creek gear.
Wise Guys Pizzeria has also hosted spirit nights for most GCISD elementary schools in which they give 25% of the profits from the night back to the school. Owner Kevin McNamara has also spoken at numerous career days across the district, teaching students about the details of owning a business. Wise Guys has also been involved in job fairs, cotillions, Teacher Appreciation Week, athletics sponsorships and various carnivals and festivals.
