Grapevine High School’s Walker St. John won his third UIL State Championship of the year as the junior crossed the line in first place of the 5A 1600-meter race at the UIL Track and Field State Meet in Austin last weekend.

St. John actually lost a shoe on the third of four laps around the track and crossed the finish line with a time of 4:18.53 with just one shoe still on. St. John adds this most recent state gold medal to his individual and team cross country gold medals that he already won in the fall.

St. John was one of six GCISD student-athletes to compete at the state meet, including Colleyville Heritage freshman Allie Love who finished on the podium twice. Love finished second in the both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races.
