GCISD is excited to announce that both of its students that participated in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) this year have received special award recognition. Sunehra Chowdhury and Stefan Salaices, both Colleyville Heritage High School students, joined a long list of GCISD students to participate in the ISEF, but they became the first in the District’s history to earn special awards.

Chowdhury earned an alternate honor from the NC State College of Engineering for her project The Analysis of Chitosan in Reducing the Initial Burst Effect in Electrospun Nanofiber-Based Drug Delivery Systems (DDS).

Salaices earned honorable mention from the American Psychological Association for his project Don’t Trip; TRIPP! The Effect of a Virtual Reality Meditation Environment on Stress and Mindfulness.

Each of their projects was judged virtually in early May and award winners were announced in late May. Chowdhury and Salaices qualified directly for the ISEF thanks to their performance at the Fort Worth Regional Fair, surpassing the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair.

At the regional fair, each student placed 1st in their category, with Chowdhury also finishing 1st in the overall Best in Fair competition, and Salaices finishing 5th in Best in Fair.
