Twelve Named 2022 All-State Musicians
Posted on 01/11/2022

Twelve students will represent GCISD as Texas All-State musicians at the 2022 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

“These students are truly some of the best high school musicians in the nation,” said GCISD Director of Fine Arts Paul Sikes. “While our students are the ones who deserve most of the credit for their determination and hard work, our entire music staff, K-12, has had a large part in these students' success through inspiration, instruction, and encouragement.”

Beginning each fall, over 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region. Individuals perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in one of 18 Texas All-State ensembles sponsored by the Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Divisions. Only the top 2.5% of musicians who initially audition become All-State musicians.

These All-State students travel to the TMEA Clinic/Convention, held in San Antonio on February 9-12. They participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors, then perform for thousands of attendees to close the convention on February 12 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
