GCISD Participates in Hour of Code
Posted on 11/29/2018

GCISD is proud to again participate in the Hour of Code, a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce students to one hour of computer science. It was launched in December of 2013 to demystify and promote Computer Science.

GCISD has participated every year since its inception. This is the second year the instructional technology team has provided a Coding Playground that visits each elementary campus library learning commons. All elementary students have the opportunity to learn how to use coding manipulatives by visiting stations that include activities such as creating binary bracelets or coding a robot mouse to find its cheese.

In addition to the coding playground, teachers provide their students with opportunities to participate by teaching coding apps such as Code-a-Pillar and PBS Scratch, Jr. and reading books such as "How to Code a Sandcastle."
